BLUEPRINT READING FOR MACHINISTS
|
 |
The ability to read and to interpret information found on industrial blueprints ranks high among the desirable qualifications of a machinist. The term blueprint reading means the competence to visualize and interpret a series of related views and to understand the dimensions and notes that give directions for the manufacture of the part. The capacity to read a print is one of the key factors in technical communications.
A significant portion of the course is devoted to developing visualization through a variety of teaching methods, including sketching exercises. Numerous illustrations, examples, exercises and drawings are used to aid the student in interpreting the information presented. Prints created for CNC parts have unique information not included with detail prints. Much of this information, such as tooling requirements, relates to the piece of equipment that is used to produce the part. All drawings and illustrations used in teaching this course follow the latest dimensioning and tolerancing standards ANSI Y14.5M.
This course is designed for the person who has had no or had very limited previous experience with blueprints or mechanical drawings. It provides up-to-date knowledge to those desiring to entry or advancement into our industrial world.
Enrollment limited.
