Answers to some frequently asked questions about CAMS:

Where to find us?
Our address is CAMS,
556 Central Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714. You can find directions to the Center on the Facilities page. You may call us at  (516) 724-0101 to set up an appointment.

Why do people need us?
The Center for Advanced Manufacturing Studies (CAMS) is established with the sole purpose of educating machine shop personnel in the latest in Machine Tool technology. Our programs are designed for people familiar with machining and are willing to advance their knowledge by learning CNC and CAD/CAM.

Who are we?
We are a group of professional educators with many years of experience in teaching CNC and CAD/CAM technology. Among us you can find College Professors, Manufacturing engineers, CNC programmers. Some of us published books in this field. We do not offer any other courses but the ones related to CNC and CAD/CAM.

When did we start?
This organization started in November of 1985 as a CNC consulting company. In July of 1998, realizing a sharp shortage of CNC personnel in New York area, we changed our focus to training CNC and CAD/CAM.

What do we offer to our students?
The CNC Specialist Program consists of five modules. The first one is an introductory. It is designed to introduce the student to CNC technology, review the concepts, activities, tooling used, mathematics (geometry, algebra). The next module is designed to teach the student the fundamentals of CNC milling: setup & programming. CNC turning is offered in the third module. In module 4 & 5 our students learn CAD/CAM. Here we teach the students how to create CNC programs by using the power of the computer. Our students love this module because no calculations are required to create a program. We selected Mastercam, the leader in CAD/CAM, for this purpose. By the end of the program our students comfortably write basic CNC and CAD/CAM programs for lathes and mills.

What's new at the Center?
Because of high demand we added Mastercam 8.0 ADVANCED to our program. It requires knowledge of the basic 2 and 2½D CAD/CAM programming. Also we are in a process of adding a course titled "Blueprint reading for Machinists" (a must for CNC personnel).

Do you help to find a job?
Job opportunities are plenty for people who know CNC and/or CAD/CAM. We, at CAMS, do provide job placement assistance for students who need it. We do not charge our students for this service.

What does it cost to study at CAMS?
Tuition schedule at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing studies varies depending on the program you've selected. For the latest tuition and registration fees please call the school. At the moment we do not accept any Tuition Assistance or Grants. Ask your employer if he has a Tuition Reimbursement plan.

Do I get a proof of completing CNC studies?
Every student upon successful completion of our program will receive a Certificate.
Do you have evening and weekend classes? Yes we do. Our programs are designed for working (or temporary out of work) people and we offer convenient evening (6:30 to 9:30) and Sunday classes. For people working second shift we offer day classes.
